" I have attached a pic of my latest snow sculpture from the last thaw.  I try to take any opportunity to create public art in my yard for our community to enjoy.  Sometimes must be seen as strange, but residents young and older love passing by to see the latest installation.  Lovely that art can give a community a sense of belonging, start discussions and bring art into the suburban”.

Bookbinding Workshop at the MMFA, Feb. 15th, 2018

Cathy and Elaine attended this workshop at the MMFA and learned how to make a small book using scrap papers, card, hole-punches, and yarn. We opted for the Japanese Stab Binding method, although a folded folio-style option was also available to learn. We were then encouraged to be creative and decorate the covers of our handmade books. This workshop is still ongoing on Thursdays in February, free for seniors, at the MMFA. It's a great way to use up scrap paper.

We filled out an application for WASM to walk in the St. Patrick's Parade for 2018. The parade is on Sunday, March 18, 2018, starting at noon. We would have to get there by 12:30pm. The walk for us would be about 40 minutes. It won't be on St. Catherine street this year as there will be construction. It may possibly be from De Maisonneuve and Bleury to Mackay, then turn on Mackay and end on Mackay and René Lévesque. We are really counting on some of you to participate. It would be great if we had at least 20 members in the parade. We could probably squeak by if we had 10. Please, would you tell me if you are interested. Thanks so much. Maybe you could show up at the Alexis Nihon tomorrow at 2pm and we could discuss details. Walking in the parade would be a great way to get our WASM club known to the public and it should be a lot of fun!

In addition, we will also be filling out an application the end of March for the Canada Day Parade. Who would be interested in walking in that one? All you have to do if you are interested is reply to me with the parade you are interested in okay! Thanks so much!

At the McCord Museum: Gabor Szilasi: The Art World in Montreal, 1960 – 1980, from
December 7, 2017 to April 29, 2018. This exhibition of unpublished photographs by Gabor Szilasi (born 1928) features images from art openings and other artistic events held in Montreal between 1960 and 1980. Shot in a spontaneous documentary style, they immortalize the people, places and vitality of Montreal's art scene at a time of social and cultural upheaval.  Although Szilasi is one of Quebec's best-known living photographers, this significant aspect of his work has never been publicly displayed.
